The circular spots are not much larger than up to a quarter inch, and yes, they travel through the center leaf normally down through the heart of the growing plant.

Not here, Teresa, but it'd be a great idea! There's a local iris club and a daylily club about 100 miles away. That's as close as I can get to a combo!

I never saw any spots or oozing on my iris at all but from the looks of the rhizome, it had to be borers. Like you said, there was only a shell remaining. All of the inside was gone.
