You must have had plenty of rain on your garden while you were gone....if I'd gone away for a month, I'd have come home to a fried mess...we've had almost no rain in weeks. Larry how did your caladium from last year overwinter? Did you have a good return?
Tomorrow will be 3 weeks without rain here, I too have weeds galore. That chamber bitter came back like it had never been pulled.
I guess I'll drag some hoses and be up early to weed some. The early morning air is invigorating.

I did not have many Caladiums last year because of the very cold winter of 2014 that almost wiped them out. What few I did have left all seem to return though. So unless we have a very cold winter like that again I expect most of them to return. Before the cold winter they have returned reliably for several years.
I watered the rose bed before planting the new daylilies in it, because it was so dry. The bog still had standing water in places, so I just had no idea what the weather was actually like while I was gone. I got contradictory stories about it from my neighbors on each side of me!

Your neighbors sound like Jerry. When I'm spending the weekend in town for work, when I get home I'll ask about rain. He won't have a clue.
Once that bog critter was deported did you have any more?
My tithonia is a butterfly magnet, they love it!
I had a few caladium pop up under my fig tree and that was it, it was more than I expected.

I have never had a plant more attractive to butterflies than the Mexican Sunflower. I thought for several years that Lantana was the best at attracting them, and it does seem to attract more of the swallow tails. But in general the Mexican Sunflower is just tops for butterflies here. I was just out cleaning mine up, it seems the limbs got so heavy with blooms they were all breaking off right at the stalk.
