I have 2 abelias that I bought some 3 or 4 years ago. I have no idea what type they are. Anyone have a clue? (Sorry if pics aren't clear enough. Can try again if need be. Between glaucoma and inability to stay still enough to take a picture, well it's kinda hard.) What you can't really see is all of the blooms. These plants need to go into the ground. I've just been trying to find the perfect spot. But at least the birds can use them when coming in for a landing.

Probably Abelia x grandiflora.
Would need to see very clear pics showing the flowers and the persistant sepals.
ie the 5 pointed pink star things left after the petals drop off.

Abelia Edward Goucher has only 2.

I took some more pictures. @Calif_Sue - are you saying that you did move my question to the Plant ID Forum? When I skimmed this earlier I thought you were suggesting that I should move it. Guess I'll go look before I post more pictures. Oh. I see. That's where this is at now. Duh.

Here are better pictures of the flowers. Well, I don't know about 'better'. Somehow they seem a little blurrier than on my iMac. Or maybe my glasses are dirty.

Thanks for new pics which show the 4 /5 x persistant calyx...so Abelia x grandiflora would still be my suggestion.
Those tiny calyx will go a beautiful colour after all the flowers die back and the petals drop.
This pic shows what I mean.

Thanks, y'all. I appreciate your help. So is there actually a difference between Abelia x grandiflora and Glossy Abelia? I'd like to add it to my list and want to be accurate. If I had an actual camera as opposed to my iPhone (and if I didn't have glaucoma), I could do better pictures. How glossy is 'glossy'?

Glossy Abelia is a common name.

It's just like Rose, Hybrid tea rose, or Floribunda rose are common names, Rosa is the genus name.

Glossy Abelia is just the common name for Abelia x grandiflora.

Your thread, you can mark it solved (under last post or at the top). Thumbs up I usually scroll through older ones and mark them if the original poster didn't come back.

Silversurfer, your sources are outdated. The Abelia genus no longer exists. All of the Abelia species have been reclassified as Zabelia or Linnaea.

It gets worse: Even Linnaea x grandiflora really doesn't belong in our database because it isn't an accepted name. It's a man-made hybrid, as opposed to the hybrids that occur spontaneously, in the wild. The spontaneous ones are the hybrid taxa we include in our database.
