I just love reading all of ya'lls brain storming. Lynn, an onion bag sounds perfect. I can't wait to see everyone's creations. I was just checking out one of many many websites that sell wreaths and things and he gives a tutorial on how to plant the mesh boxes. He fills them with cuttings. I'm wondering, if you start out with it full, them being small cuttings and all, what do you do when they start growing? Take them out?

scroll all the way to the bottom and he shows you a video.

oops, sorry, this is the link for his wreaths.
He gives instructions at the bottom.

I don't know if you can see them but tiny roots are coming out of the bottom of this little container. See, I used screen on the bottom and that is the plastic one. I stapled it on to hold in the dirt, then I lined it with either paper towels or the weed barrier stuff.

I picked up three unopened packages of queen size, control top, sandal foot panty hose at the thrift store! What a haul - also got another wire wreath form, so I'll try and get some motivation and build the wreath and another wire ball filled with the panty hose, just to try. Now my Sempervivum are finally starting to look half decent, I can make some crafts! Hurray!

Well, I did find that thread about the topiary turtle, and lost it again! Here's what I made today - with a bit of help on the turtle:

Thumb of 2011-07-29/BlueFox/30bee1 You can see the whole progression on my website http://www.drought-smart-plant...

I was so stoked by how this turned out that I renovated my succulent ball using the same technique:

Thumb of 2011-07-29/BlueFox/b5b5b9

and not content with that, I made another panty hose wreath:

ok what a clever idea! Anyone have seeds or babies? I have the panty hose but will have to get a wire frame for it. wonder how these would do hanging indoors through winter...or do they stay outside year round?

Misti I would think if they are planted with tender succulents you could bring them indoors for the winter. If hardy succulents just lay it on the ground outside to winter over.
Is there some one here that has wintered them over in the house?
