When do I prune back my hardy hibiscus? I have many plants and some are very old.. They bloom beautifully every year. They have all quit blooming and I would like to trim them back. Do I have to wait until a frost. I live in South Dakota in zone 3...

If you are talking about Hibiscus moscheutos cultivars, I wait until they die back on their own. As long as there are green leaves, it is still storing energy for the winter.
