I put AC vinegar in my chicken waterer along with a clove of garlic - they seem to prefer this water over the plain water in their larger metal waterer (the vinegar would react with the metal). In your birdbath, I'd just put a small amount in whenever you refill it. My ratio is one capful of vinegar to 1 gallon water. I had white pigeons (white dove release) and that is recommended to keep them healthy. Every third watering add some Apple Cider Vinegar...

Someone posted a tip on this site a while back to use pure copper pennies ... I believe they had to be before 1972 ... in your bird bath to keep it algae free. I tried it a couple of summers ago and it worked.

I don't have a bird bath any more because I ended up with more wood peckers than I wanted ...

Personally I wouldnt add anything to the water, I take a wet rag and hot water and wipe it clean, and then add clean water. Frank

My husband has a scrub brush that he uses specifically for the birdbath. He scrubs it out every week or two.

Wow. Who knew? Thanks for all the info folks. I have a birdbath that I really haven't used yet but when I do next season, I'll know to do this. I suppose that's why I love this forum. I learn the neatest things.
