I've grown chard for years and have liked it because it seemed disease and insect free. But this year most of the outer leaves were ruined by brown spots. Today I harvested a sink full of inner good leaves and only encountered 2 earwigs and 1 squash bug. (!?) Any ideas what caused this disaster?

Looks like leaf miner damage. In my current home garden, I can't grow any kind of beets or chard unless it's under a fabric or plastic cover, due to devastation caused by those nasty bugs.
