Sheila: What a great idea! I end up throwing gloves here, there and everywhere and then can only seem to find one single glove. I am definitely going to try this and see if I can get into the habit of keeping mates together. I hate looking for gloves and finding two different ones ... for the left hand! Big Grin

Great tip!

Another idea on this (I've been doing this for years, but I really don't know what these CLEAN gloves you're talking about).

I have a small bucket that used to hold dishwasher pellet thingies in. It's about 12" tall by 10" wide by 6" deep & has a flip-top lid. I punctured a small hole in the side & hung it from a nail from my garage wall. Then I put all the gloves in there. That way, I don't have to wander around trying to figure out where did I put my gloves the last time I used them. But I've been folding them in like socks for.. well, as long as I've been gardening (2 years)

I'm afraid that when I die family is going to comb through my house and find garden gloves; dirty gloves, clean gloves, gloves in the garage, gloves in the washer, gloves under the bathroom sink, dirty gloves in the lawn mower catcher, gloves in the "ain't room" ("If it ain't here we ain't got it"), old garden gloves, gloves in the squirrel scat, gloves in the linens.

I have no idea where my gloves are. I need improvement! Obviously!

Good tip, Sheila! Now if I would only throw out all the holey ones...
The gloves of my right (dominant) hand get holes, and the left ones not so much, naturally, so I keep thinking I'm going to just use the left ones so they wear out, too. I hate to throw out a perfectly good glove.

Is it just me who's that silly, or does anyone else do that? Rolling my eyes.

KyWoods: I always have that problem when I wear cloth gloves so I keep a couple of pair of leather gloves around too. They don't get holes as easily ... but they do get dirty. Big Grin

I found that if I got the el cheapo nytril (nitril?) coated gloves at Home Depot, it didn't matter if they got holes (and moving 18 tons of rocks by the 70lb bucket load..). But it was building a big paver patio w/pavestones that really killed a ton of gloves (holes in the tips of the fingers). Or when I built my pond area & moved 104 wall pavers.. I think I went through 3 sets of gloves (again, holes in the finger tips). But they kept my hands mostly cut free! Yay! And since my hands are so big (xl-xxl), I can't get the cute ladies gloves.. they just don't fit Sad And I can't wear the leather ones.. makes my hands sweat too much! These are the ones I go through. They're cheap, they stretch, they protect me (mostly) from rocks/sand... what more can I ask for? And if they get too dirty or if I lose one, big deal! http://www.homedepot.com/h_d1/...

No, Renee, you are NOT alone!

BRAINSTORM!!! Why don't you organize a swap with LEFTY gardeners here who need a perfectly good left-hand glove? Then, you get their perfectly good RIGHT-hand glove in return!!!

GE-NIOUS!!!! I tip my hat to you.

Toni,
Please send all the encouragement you can my way, since I've decided it will be more cost effective for me to build my own raised bed retaining walls MYSELF!

I've looked at the Home Depot DIY video, and it seems rather cut and dried. I don't have readily available manpower, but, most of the beds will only be 18" high, so I'm sure I can handle moving one paver at a time. I'm using the generic, scalloped concrete limestone paver that HD sells, and have figured a pallet of 144 pavers will let me build 3 RBs, 3' x 12' x 18" deep. These will be used for my edible landscape plan.

I'm just always so afraid to mess up materials and incur more $$$ Crying , that I never get started on some really EZ projects. And, I need to get started. Sad

Please, help me to start...

Hugs!

Linda

Toni,

Thanks for the link on the gloves you get at HD. I'll have to look for those myself.

Everything that's been done outside is only by me, myself and I. Thumbs up

Always have that same problem with lots of left hand gloves and holey and/or no right hand ones.
Welcome to the Agastache and Salvias Forum!

After finding a spider in an old dusty glove one time (no didn't bite me), I decided it would be a safer way to store them. I also gather them up and wash them every week or so for the same reason. Throw away the holey gloves.....you deserve new ones! It is your hobby and gloves are an important tool. If the left cloth ones pile up, wash and use them to dust with....bet you use your left hand ok there.

LOL, love the lefty/righty glove trade idea! Hey, there's a shoe trading organization for people with one leg; it's called the One Shoe Crew. Maybe I should start one named the One Hand Band?

Unfortunately, I get holes in the leather ones, too. I do a lot of brush clearing.

We saw a sale at HD or Lowes last year.... 12 pair for $4. They had them nearly hidden, but I found them and got em!!! Watch the ads! Those nitrile gloves are wonderful!!!

AND, you can patch them with duct tape or insert a rubber finger if you really needed!... but at $4/dozen.... toss em!

Wow! Sounds great, 'cause I found out the hard way that duct tape won't stick to leather for long. Hilarious!
