It looks like we've been busy uploading plant images, but nothing else. It looks empty when you bring up the plant. Maybe we should all (myself included) try harder to add some information, too. It's nice that we don't have to complete every field, and can just enter what we have.

I've been trying to add data as I think of it. Sometimes I add a little and then remember something a few days later and add more ... and comments, I'm trying to add comments to plants that I'm familiar with too.

Out of about 227K plants, 112K of them have at least one item of data checked off. That's really not bad! Much of that was put in automatically by me (I would do things like check off "Full Sun" for all Helianthus plants, for example) but like Lin said, we have a lot that others have submitted. Each day there is a page full of data proposals that get approved.

But you're right that we need more. Smiling

Something to keep in mind: I have the ability to set the data across a genus (or genus/species, etc) all in one fell swoop. So, if you have a plant that you think would be good to set a certain data set, let me know and I can do it. This technique will get use a lot of data with not a lot of effort.

Dave: Could you set the data for these? Care/culture is pretty much the same and if there should be any minor additions/subtractions we can submit proposals for any changes.

Achimenes: Cupid's Bower (Achimenes longiflora)

Aeschynanthus: Lipstick Plant (Aeschynanthus micranthus)

Aglaonema: Aglaonemas (Aglaonema)

Catharanthus: Vinca (Catharanthus roseus)

Codiaeum: Croton (Codiaeum variegatum 'Batik')

Columnea: Goldfish Plant (Columnea 'Carnival')

Hoya: Krimson Queen Hoya (Hoya carnosa 'Tricolor')

Lin, I need to get verification that I'm understanding you. Are you saying that the data that has been set in the above plants, can be applied to all plants within those same genera?

Dave: Yes, that's what I meant, data same for all genera .... but oops, as Lee Anne pointed out I forgot the bloom color is different.

Here's how to do this:

Create a plant, and give it a common name that should apply to all plants in that gneus.

Then specify the genus and if you want it to apply to all plants, regardless of species, then leave the species blank.

Then leave the cultivar blank.

Once the plant is created, set the data for that plant. Once it's approved, give me a link to the plant and I will mark it as an encyclopedic page and the effect of that will cause all children plants to receive the data and common name from that plant's entry.

I hope the steps here are clear. Let me know if this is too complicated and I'll try to make this a bit easier.

The database is looking very good. Accuracy over speed, methinks. There's enough inaccuracies out there all over the place. Glare Rome wasn't built in a day.
