The singular form of my answer to 2 down still would require six rather than five letters. So, if I was wrong about that, I don't have them all.

I'm thinking the same thing. This might have been the wrong time to introduce a game that might require some work. But, the clues really are straightforward so I'm sure someone will come up with the answers.

We are getting close to swapping now. Once this game is over watch for a few simple "spot" games in the remaining time, but no more ongoing games. We are holding now at 43 players, but are losing one soon, so right now whoever initially chose 42 for the final number is the leader in the very first game.

I keep editing posts, here and elsewhere. I can't seem to spell today....

Sorry Audrey. I did not address the number of letters did I? It is 6 letters, singular. I used an online program to create the grid, never thinking it would spit out something that was wrong. Angry Go ahead with your answers.

Alana,
Thanks! I still could be wrong about some of these, but they at least seemed to fit in the grid. The answers I came up with were the following:

Across:
4. Nathaniel Ward
8. purple roses
10. flower frog

Down
1. Sphenocleaceae
2. zinnia
3. hori hori knife
5. apetalous
6. flore pleno
7. midrib
9. saguaro

You got them Audrey, good job!. The one I thought might be a bit difficult was Hori Hori Knife. A great tool for the garden and otherwise, but I've only seen one gardener use it.

Which seeds do you want in your return envelope?

Thanks! I'll take the morning glory seeds. Flowers always come first with me. Though, granted, you can't eat most of them!

Wow, great, Audrey!

I was stuck on 2 down, too. Couldn't think what else would go, but not enough letters.

I've never seen a hori hori knife in real life, but I've read about it enough times to remember.

Happy Solstice! Here's a quick game to celebrate. Easy to look up and first correct answer wins. Try not to use synonyms for the same plant. Your answer should include distinct species. There are about a dozen once all of the synonyms are resolved. Exactly twelve are recognized as 'accepted' on theplantlist.org.

The genus Canna contains species used for food, beads and as garden ornamentals. One of the largest Cannas is Canna tuerckheimii. To win 5 commericals seeds of "Giant Canna", Canna tuerckheimii, name three other Canna species.

Yay Danita! I tip my hat to you. Giant Canna headed for your swap envelope.

I will be posting a few more of these quickie games up until swap time. I'll try to vary the time of posting to get as many people involved as possible.

Woo Hoo! Thanks, Alana! Hurray!

That's the second species of seeds that I've gotten with the species epithet of "tuerckheimii" so I had to look up it up. They are named for German plant collector, Hans von Türckheim. Green Grin!

How about a quick Christmas Eve, Eve game? For your choice of 3 acorns or 8 seeds of Barry's Crazy Cherry Tomato, or 5 seeds of Ipomoea nil 'Yama Pink', list three Ipomoea tricolor cultivars or varieties. Species other than tricolor will not count.
