Unlike most people I know, I like my boxwood to have a natural flow to it. However, it did come with the house I bought in '98 and I figured it was due for a haircut, so to speak.




My 'helper' left it looking like this.
I didn't know she had arrived so I wasn't out supervising. (Not that I know what to do.)

I'm worried that it will never grow bushy again and that it will always look like it needs stockings. There's still a lot of dead branches. I don't know why she left those.

Any thoughts or advice? Please and thank you.

I'm speechless. Boxwoods aren't fast growers that I've seen so all I can say is leave it be for a growing season and see if it starts putting out new growth.

tip pruning would have been all that was needed.

Trust me. I'm speechless too. I almost cried when I saw what this 'expert' had done.

@Calif_Sue - She did plenty of tip pruning as well as whatever she did at the bottom. I never heard her drive up and she hadn't sent me a text to say that she had arrived. Finally I went out back and she was already working on the rosemary. I just hope that the boxwood fills in on the bottom branches. I don't know what I'll do if it doesn't. Guess I'll do what Scarlett would do - think about it tomorrow.

Well you never know. My husband did butcher-type pruning of trees when I wasn't looking. I did cry. And rant and cry some more. It took a while but they recovered and you couldn't tell it was ever butchered by the following year, or maybe it was two years. I tried to block that memory.
Lets hope these do the same.
