Hi all, Julia and Evan what beautiful pictures. I only have red or yellow cannas with plain green leaves at this point and I have a ton of them. I did at one time have more varieties but in the last few years it seems that the Red or Yellow are all that is left. I just dug mine a few days ago and they seemed just fine. I dig them up, take only the loose dirt off and set them in heavy plastic trays then store them in my son's basement which is rather damp and cool. Some of the smaller pieces go into brown paper bags and they all seem to come out in the spring in good shape.

Beautiful pic Holly and yet more confirmation on proper overwintering. While organizing my 2011 photos I got to wondering what L. C. Tiffany might have done in stained glass were Tropicanna around then.

Holly: I would never have thought to leave them in the ground this late in the season. I thought they would freeze and die but maybe not. Confused

I think most of mine are just plain green leaves as I can't remember if any of them had any special coloring on the leaves. Maybe I need to add one with a splash of color on its leaves. I'll have to check online to see if Tropicanna or something similar is available.

We have had some frost and the tops are toast but the bulbs themselves were still just fine. We have more cannas than I know what to do with. Not only the ones from my yard which have doubled but Sunday we went to my daughter's school to dig their cannas. We filled the whole back of the explorer with them and still didn't get them all. Ric might go back and pull the rest in a few days. Theirs are all red. Last year we dug them up and stored them for the winter then went back in the spring and planted them. There were way too many last year and they have multiplied so much over the summer. So the back of the Explorer is approx 4 X 8 and we filled it twice between our house and the school.
