Have we lost the option to choose desktop view over mobile? I noticed when I visited NGA forums on my iPod 5th Gen last night that I automatically got a mobile version of the site although I had it set to always be desktop before. I don't like the mobile version because I just want to look down the forums list to see what I want to read and it takes much more scrolling to do that in mobile. Ditto for scrolling down the threads. I don't see the option any more in site preferences.

There really is no more "desktop versus mobile" versions of the site anymore. It's now just the same no matter which device you use, so I removed the preference option.

The only real difference between using a phone or a desktop is that the columns will appear side-by-side on a desktop, while on a smaller device they will appear below each other in one column. Other than that there are no differences.

Thanks, Dave. That latter is the reason I preferred the desktop version because with the columns being under each other on the mobile means I can only check two forums/threads for new posts per scroll whereas before (judging by the 99 forums on the home page) I could see 9 per scroll.

So I will use the browser option to show desktop site since we don't still have the within site option. I tried it just now and it got me back to having the forum list and threads one per line

Seems I spoke too soon - requesting the desktop version did work on my Android phone but not on the iPod.

I still get the mobile-type view sideways with the iPod. It's actually worse because then it's only one forum/thread per page. I don't know why requesting desktop view works with the Android phone and not the iPod. Maybe the different browser because the phone uses Chrome and the iPod Safari. Maybe I'll get the Chrome app for the iPod and see what that does (Edited to add, nope didn't help).
