@Dave,

This is a 2-parter.

Is there a way to have the system show me every image that I have ever uploaded?
I see no sense in uploading the same image multiple times. If I can remember where an image was last used, it's easy enough to get the location of it to re-use. But, if the image was uploaded a while ago, the chances of finding it again are slim to none.

Image maintenance: Delete an image
I'm sure there are images that we upload that we would like to update with a more current version, or that was uploaded in error. D'Oh! Do we have the ability to delete our own images?

Thanks!

That would only show Rick the images he's added to the database. I assumed he meant all of the photos he's uploaded to the system, and I don't think there's any easy way to find all of those.

As for deletion, you can propose the deletion of a photo you've added to the database, Rick, and you can edit your posts to delete the photos you've posted in threads.

@FrostWeed - I can't find such a link in my profile. Can you be more specific?

@Zuzu - Yes, I'm talking about ALL pictures that I've uploaded, both plant database and in posts. I realize that I can edit a post to take out the picture reference. But what I would like to be able to do is get a list of every image I've uploaded in a neat format so that I can freely reference them in other posts without having re-upload. The only time I would want to delete a pic is if it is so obsolete that it's incorrect.

Frostweed is referring to the link to your database images. If you go to your profile page and scroll down to "Plant Database Contributions," you'll find that you have added 34 images to the database. You can click on the "34 images" notation and see all of those images.

There is no easy access to all of the images you've added to forums at this time, and in view of the complicated programming it would entail, I have doubts about the future availability of this type of easy access.

Zuzu is right. The images you post to the forums are put into the body in the form of a lightbox tag, and that is literally all the system does. I can't really go through and produce a list of the forum photos you've uploaded because it's just not stored internally like that.

Gotcha! Well, as we used to say about E-Mail... disk space is cheap. Of course, back then we were still talking about megabytes. These days, it's terabytes and still cheap.

Do all of the pictures that we post here on garden.org, whether good, bad, or ugly, get uploaded - or would it be downloaded? - whatever - to the internet?

I think they are, but Dave can tell us for sure. I did a fast search of images in your name. There are quite a few of them, but not all are yours.

Search engines like google definitely look at Garden.org and add our content to their search engines. That includes the photos.

It is especially funny when I Google a plant I want to know more about, and my downloaded photo here pops up. But it really is great advertising for NGA! Just make sure you have settings/copyrights/Commons/EXIF info the way you want. Embedded in the image is info about camera settings, and sometimes the GPS coordinates of the photo. I did not turn the GPS on in my camera for that reason. Someone could potentially figure out where you live.

Actually Mary, to protect your privacy, all the EXIF data is stripped from all images on Garden.org.

Just to clarify in my muddy mind - that would include photos posted in the forum threads as well as those contributed to the database?
