I've never been to that neck of the woods. How's the weather? So close to the lake on two fronts!

The ice is gone from lower lake Huron and the St Clair river.
We are normally zone 4b, but this year - wow 71 degrees on february 14th. I don't know what to make of it. Today, after more than two weeks of 50-70 degree days I find my allium gigantium up 5". That's 60 days ahead of schedule. Yikes.

If I know Michigan, it won't last!

I still keep up my journal at Dave's Garden. Over the years I have put so much info into the records, I am so afraid of losing it. It helps me keep track of where I put plants, when I move them, when they flower, starting from seed, photos of them, things that I need to do. You can decide what you want to use the columns for and make up your own categories and statuses. I have lots of notes on paper too, but get around to updating later if I don't do it as I garden. I sure wish this site offered a journal. I don't suppose Dave wants to design another one.

Each entry opens to it's own page with more info and any number of photos.

I use the "My List" feature of this web site to journal my plants. In the comment section of each plant, I include the year I acquired it, where it came from, where it is planted, and sometimes specific care notes or uses. Below that, I keep track of when I can expect the plant to emerge, bloom, change color, go dormant, etc. These dates are approximate and are a range - e.g., some years things emerge earlier or later than others. I am always updating this, and divide each month into 3 parts - early (1-9) mid (10-19) or late (20-end of month). I love the new feature of adding photos specific to my yard which may not be appropriate for the database - e.g., if there are a gazillion bloom photos already in the main database, I don't add any more but do add it to my personal list. I'm currently rather focusing on plant after-care, which I think is difficult to nail down because it can be quite different for different regions.

I also keep a general chore list of things to do or move, etc. This starts as notebook scribblings on garden walk-abouts and ends up in a Word document that is constantly being updated. It is quite specific to my own gardens, so not a particular fit for this site.
I want to live in a world where the chicken can cross the road without its motives being questioned.
