If the challenge is "who's the cheapest one of all?", I plan to campaign busily for the title.

I admit: making pots out of newspaper goes one better. But some of my pots are 1-2 gallons, and my hat would REALLY be off to anyone making a 2-gallon newspaper pot

I tip my hat to you.

I once considered trying to make big "pots" from cardboard boxes by lining the box with a plastic garbage bag ... but I never tried it.

However, I DID line the free cardboard trays that HD gives away with plastic film, to hold seedlings and pots despite water coming freely out the bottoms.

Free is good!

I like the way you think. I've been saving the plastic liners from Cheerio boxes, because they must be very resistant to humidity passing through them.

I knew some day I would find a use besides lining Priority mailers (the Post Office dropped a box from Franchi Seeds into a puddle and then stomped on it - fortunately Franchi uses waterproof, heat-sealed packets). Now, to get my seeds wet, they would have to hold the box underwater until bubbles stop coming up!

But I could use them as plant pots. Thank you!

It was better than one group seed swap where several boxes were arriving at the host's house on the same day - heavy heavy rainstorm there.

They had a substitute or extra delivery mailman helping with the holiday rush. Well, he was an idiot or really mean and vicious because he threw all the parcels he was delivering into the back of his pick-up truck - fully exposed to the heavy rain - and then drove them around all day.

It was like putting them into his shower stall and running water full blast on them for several hours.

Old sinks, bathroom or kitchen. Just put some screening in the drains so your soil doesn't fall out & you have catchy pots.

Back in the mid 1970's we had friends who were remodeling their old house and they had a really old, heavy bathtub that they were getting rid of. I really, really wanted that tub for a planter for my yard but everyone (including my husband and the friends) thought I was kidding. Needless to say, I did not get that tub. Grumbling

Aw heck, Lin. It would have made an amazing garden planter. We had a friend who had one outside, all plumbed up. It was nicely planted all around it, and it was used to bathe their dogs.
