This bee looked like it was taking a nap, it was very still for quite awhile, draped over the butterfly bush blooms. Hilarious!

Margaret: Really pretty photo of that bee! Maybe it passed out from too much nectar. Green Grin!

J: Lovely shots as always, love the bees and especially love those beautiful blooms in your garden!

Christine: That does look like some kind of syrphid fly ... great shots!

Thanks Lin, I have seen them resting in the flowers before, but I really liked the way this one was kind of hanging there. Green Grin!

Cute little syrphid fly.

Now there's another winner that needs to be made into a banner! The rocks, the aster, the buckeye. Oh man, that is really beautiful J! that would make a great framed piece of art just as it is. The composition is fabulous. And there's that brightly stripe bee too!

I don't often see bees anymore. Everyone complains here about the lack of them these days. It could be the spraying of mangroves for mosquitos and sand-flies by the local authority.
The problem is that when you are young your life it is ruined by your parents. When you are older it is ruined by your children.

Don't quote me on this.... but it seems like the culprit for the bee demise is the nicotine based insecticides. Although they aren't often applied to actual blooms, they are systemic and if the plant blooms it is available to the pollinators.

This Wiki articles names the different brands and gives some more (and probably more accurate!) info: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/N...
