Audubon had posted a thing on Facebook about it being "all but official" that the Gray Jay would be the bird of Canada, so it's nice to have a Canadian tell us what's up! Seems like a good choice, too! Thumbs up

Speaking of national birds, I swear I think I saw a Bald Eagle when Mom was driving today. We've had plenty of vultures flying around, but this clearly had a white head and I could see white in the tail feathers, too. I think. There was white on the other end, anyway. Hilarious! I've seen Ospreys before and they have more brown around the head. I hope it was an Eagle, I saw. Never can see too many of them. I still remember being a kid learning about recovery efforts after DDT.

Melanie, I never tire of seeing the Bald Eagles either, yesterday DH and I went shopping and there is a large lake right beside the highway, on the way home we saw 2 adults and a juvenile, and a Turkey Vulture, Blinking the parents were trying to grab a muskrat that kept popping up through holes in the ice that had formed around the edge of the lake. We figured that the Vulture was waiting for leftovers. Hilarious! We stopped the truck and got out to watch them for awhile, and wouldn't you know it, I hadn't taken the camera with me. D'Oh!

Melanie, I bet it was a Bald Eagle that you saw, there are many nest sites in Florida. At the FWC site: http://myfwc.com/wildlifehabit... you can type in an address or just a city and state to find nest locations. I found 14 within a 10 mile range over here where I live and I typed in Lutz, Fl and using a 10 mile radius, the map shows 17 nest sites near you! Keep watching and I bet you'll spot more Bald Eagles in the near future!

I love Eagles, too! They breed locally and I see them often here.

It has seemed rather scarce for birds here in the early morning. I was beginning to wonder what happened to all the birds. But I discovered that many of the birds don't start showing up in my yard until much later in the morning towards almost noon time. I don't know where they are before then.

Most, to my surprise, have been the smaller birdies. The Grackles and the huge flock of White-winged Doves have tapered off. I still see both those species, but not in the intimidating numbers that I had seen in late Summer/early Fall. I see a few Bluejays from time to time as well, but again, not the large numbers seen earlier.

I counted 5 Cardinals on Sunday morning/afternoon at one time. 2 adult males and 3 females/immatures. I also saw several Warblers, a Cat Bird, Painted Buntings, and some others I am not sure of the species.

Becky, great shots of the wide variety of birdie visitors at your place! I love the chubby catbird and your pretty little Warbler does look to be the pine warbler. Thumbs up

I've been hearing the Gray Catbird lately but have yet to spot one. They seem to be in the thick shrubbery or up in the trees, camouflaged by leaves. Birds are still scarce in my yard, I see the occasional Mourning Dove, Woodpecker and Cardinal but not as often as I'd like. The squirrels are ever abundant and although there are lots of them running up and down the trees, they are not emptying the feeders as usual, nor are the raccoons at night! I'm really stumped as to why that is because even though there is lots of natural food about, birds usually visit the feeders daily too and even the suet cakes are mostly intact. I think there may very well be cats around that are keeping the birds at bay ... or possibly snakes. At least two or three times daily I've been hearing the chattering distress calls that the squirrels make when there are cats or snakes in the area. I'm hoping the bird activity will pick up at my feeders as the weather continues to get a little cooler and migrants from the north arrive.

Now that cooler autumn air has finally arrive things are picking up here. The past 2 days I have seen a Red-breasted Nuthatch, Yellow-bellied Sapsucker and a Pileated Woodpecker. So all our woodpeckers are accounted for here. Save the Red-headed which I have never seen in the winter despite being here year round.

Oooh, great shots Claudia .. especially the Red-bellied WP! It sure looks like you get quite an array of our flying friends at your place too. The Crows always have that mean look like the Grackles!

Claudia - Great looking birds you have in those photos! Thumbs up I am especially interested in the House Finch and 2 Titmice because those are birds I've never seen. I know we get them here in Winter, but none have ever come to my yard/feeders.

Tufted Titmice are my most frequent visitors, although I admit I never really saw one until I put up the feeder. Hilarious! I actually saw one about a week ago grab a sunflower seed, go up in the oak tree, and then I saw the shell of the seed fall down. They're cute little birds, and they seem to know how to take turns. Like, if I had kids, I'd make them watch the birdfeeder to teach them about taking turns and sharing. Rolling on the floor laughing

I use black sunflower seeds in my platform feeder and white millet in the cage feeder. As well as various suets.

It has warmed up again, so feels like Spring/Fall again.

Happy Thanksgiving, everyone!

No pictures, but the robins are here for their fall pass through....saw 4 or 5 on one birdbath the other day Lovey dubby And the yellow rumped warblers are here for winter Hurray! Hurray! I love the little "butter butts". This time of year I put up my "natural" p-butter feeders. I mix p-butter, birdseed and quick oats to put on them....birds love the mix and the squirrels eat it by the fist ful.
