I'm so excited Hurray! Doing a happy dance!
The blue ginger is blooming! These are the first blooms for the plant. I've been wanting them for so long and finally I got the plants last year.

Beautiful, Betsy! Enjoy. You've made me wish for gingers again. They are nice plants.

How are you growing it? Outside or houseplant? I have one as a houseplant, it is not doing so well.

Thanks, Karen, I'm enjoying them immensely. I have a few gingers: white butterfly and shampoo. If you want any white butterfly, LMK.

Mary, I have them in ground with full/part shade since spring. Since I've only had them for a short time, I'm still learning about them.

Thank you for the kind offer, Betsy. I'll treemail you soon. I had it when I lived in the Marshall Islands. It is a beautiful plant and I didn't know it was fairly cold hardy.

That's because it's really not a ginger. They just named it 'blue ginger' because it looks like some of the gingers, only with blue flowers.

None of the real gingers are terribly cold-hardy because their stems are so full of water and collapse at the first frost, then if you don't mulch them deeply, and the rhizomes freeze, they're toast.

So prettttty!!

The squirrels dug up the Blue Ginger in my pot. Grumbling It was growing good considering the cutting I got was so puny.

Aaawww, , Cheryl, so sorry. I had ordered several stem cuttings from grower in HI through Amazon; they were all rather small and puny. I kept emailing them when they died, but they were quite accommodating and sent more cuttings - I ended with dozens but none every rooted. My current ones are from a trade with lady in FL and they were rooted plants.
Just so happy to have them bloom for first time!
