In Phoenix the curbs are sloped and white blocks with numbers are added to help Police, Fire and Emergency crews locate homes. They are B O R I N G!

So here you go with a new Garden Art lesson...create something that shows your love of gardening, that introduces visitors to the fact that there is a delightful world of color waiting for them as they travel your property. If you don't have curbs, you could do the same on large rocks, cement blocks or any kind of wood or metal.

First, scrape off the peeling paint with a wire brush. I even had to use a chisel on this one.



Next, assemble all of your paint. I also used an umbrella with a stand to shade me from the sun. I use all kinds of paints: acrylic, exterior, patio paint. The white is exterior paint that reflects in the night.



Add some leaves or the background of your design.



And then add your flowers. I just freehand these...they are painted on rough cement so fine details just isn't going to happen.

I was going to ask how long something like that would last, but common sense jumped up and said, "depends on the climate."

Where I live, snow and ice and snowplows might ruin it faster. In your climate, the hot, dry air might ruin it faster.

What sort of climate do you think this would work best in?

Any climate. If you're doing it for yoursel, it's easy to repaint. The one I did for my house is 3 years old, I just moved and it looked good. Tires make it dirty but I'd just wash it off every once in a while with soappy water/

I don't have a curb here but a big river rock or paving stone set into the edge of a flowerbed near the drive with one of these ideas would make my house number a lot easier for people to see

Vic, 607 was painted in front of a house that was an collection of inground and amazing containers. Her interior is very country with hearts throughout.

Even painted on a rock in the flower garden would be beautiful, huh??

BeckyBoo....yeh, I've tried drawing on paper. It makes my DD laugh (maybe that is success, eh?) *grin

I'm one of those with no sense of colors (just recently heard about a "color wheel", from DD, of course) and of course want to be a Rembrandt in less than a week! Then again, maybe I could do some S. Dali and get by with it, eh?

Love your painting. I'll think about giving it a try but I'm surrounded by "perfect artists" so maybe should set up a secret cove in the woods to sneak away to and experiment! (Vic, you've got the perfect place up by your pond, ya know!)

Those are beautiful! What a fabulous idea, wish I had a curb to do it to.

Would have to find a really heavy rock to do it on here so the kids don't walk away with it.

We don't have that here, but did where I grew up in southern CA. Your right, they were all the same and boring.
