Okay, I found the problem and fixed it. The data is all back where it belongs. Thumbs up

@dave and @Zuzu,

I was starting to add Biltmore Trials awards to the entries for Belinda's Dream and Roxy, but both still have the old list:

The Rose awards will be in the roses section, so scroll up a bit. Texas Superstar and other non-rose awards are still present at the bottom in the primary details. Just ignore those for roses.

Thanks, @dave.

I added a Biltmore Trials award to Belinda's Dream, and the proposed (pre-approval) result is shown below. Is it possible to have a semi-colon automatically inserted after an award in cases where there are multiple awards?

@dave and @Zuzu,

Beverly was given two Biltmore Trials awards in 2013. I proposed them separately (because I am going down the list of these awards in linear order to keep things straight), but both need to be added. In such cases, should I wait until the first proposal has been approved before adding another?

Your second proposal will over-ride the first so there's no reason to do that. Enter the full proposal of what the final data needs to be all at once.

In cases where there is multiple details about an award, then you need to enter it all in one line.

@dave,

Would you be able and willing to increase the character limit for the free-text boxes?

I ran into a limit for Biltmore Trial awards for ATHYfalaa, which received five Biltmore awards in 2013, so I emininated one award (Award of excellence for International Jury Favorite) that seemed less descriptive and useful than the others. But my compulsive nature makes me wish that that one could be included too.

The text field can only accept 255 characters and alas, that is a hard limit that cannot be increased without making substantial changes to the underlying architecture of the website (something I can't do without a tremendous amount of effort.)

The only solution I can think of is to try to make the text you're putting in as abbreviated as possible.

Alternatively, if there is going to be a bunch of different Biltmore awards, then perhaps we should add a new series of checkboxes just for Biltmore awards. Something like:

"Biltmore Awards"

and inside there add checkboxes for the various awards they offer.

The international jury award that I eliminated was given only in 2013, so perhaps it is not important. I have not encountered a problem with the character limit elsewhere.

I would prefer to defer to you two to decide whether it would be advantageous to create a list of check boxes within the Biltmore Trials award. Each award would be searchable then, unlike the current free-text entries. But perhaps just being able to search on Biltmore Trials is sufficient. I am not enough of a rosarian to decide, although I do tend to think that more targeted searches are more useful. For example, I would search on the fragrance award and the disease resistance award and would not be interested in the other awards.

I personally would just add the year and then add all of the details regarding the prize in a plant comment in that entry, but that would preclude searching by fragrance and disease resistance awards, of course.

Let's do what Zuzu suggested.

But if we ever do decide to add Biltmore Awards as a custom data field I'll be glad to set that up. Only takes a minute to do.

You could also shorten the information in the text field by omitting the name of the specific prize. Instead of:

Biltmore Trials Award: William Cecil Award for Best Growth Habit, 2015

You could enter:

Biltmore Trials Award: Best Growth Habit, 2015

Another solution is to have three checkboxes: Biltmore Fragrance, Biltmore Disease Resistance, and Biltmore other.
