Hi all, just wanted to make sure you all saw that Adelman's Peony Paradise is having a end of season sale, 40% off everything remaining in stock for the year and free shipping for any orders over $100. I just THOUGHT my planting was over for the year, picked up 4 more Itohs for around $150....
Thanks for the sale info, Liz! Have been trying to hold out for the year but this sale is too good to pass up. Just snap up 3 peonies, Old Faithful, Lemon Chiffon, and Anne Oveson.
I need to prepare to dig holes for mine! There is still snow on the new planting beds from last Tuesday's snow. It's supposed to be warm today and tomorrow before turning bad on Monday so I plan to place plastic bags over the area they'll go this morning and let the sun warm those spots through midday before trying to dig the holes. I'll have to take the fill dirt back into the garage--hoping that'll make planting toward the end of next week easier!
Karen, I thought of you when I saw Anne Oveson! Glad you were able to snap it up. And that's the very first time I've seen Lemon Chiffon for under $100, great deal. I picked up Sonomo Apricot, Floozy and Velvet Ruby as well as Going Bananas.
I did not plan on these 3 new additions so I am heading out to dig 3 holes for them. I hope that you have some warm breaks in weather to do the same. I am going to have to mulch these three peonies heavily to keep the soil warm so they can grow feeder roots until the soil freezes.
I couldn't resist the temptation of the sale and ordered a couple of ITOHs I've wanted for a long time, Border Charm and Going Bananas. They arrived today in a large priority box! Going Bananas is big, and Border Charm is huge with 9 buds!
"...and don't think the garden loses its ecstasy in winter. It's quiet, but the roots are down there riotous." Rumi
Littlebin, I think those large eyes on the roots are good indicators that they may form a few flowers. I have always gotten one or two flowers from peonies purchased from Adelman in the first year of planting. But some of them are not very well formed esp. those that are double.
Craig, those roots look awesome! I can't wait to get mine.
Thanks, they are nice looking roots. The Carnation Bouquet looked like it was ready to sprout, I believe that one will bloom next spring. I too have had good luck with Adelmans and have seen most of them blooming the following spring, I can't wait to see the results.
Even the Itohs which sometimes may take a few years to get established.
