Here is my BOP..............should I leave it in its current 20 inch pot, or should I divide and repot? Dividing is going to consist of the Spousal Unit sawing it apart with a chainsaw. I really hate to do it because it blooms regularly for me.

This photo is from when I repotted it the last time, but it is more overgrown in the 20 inch pot now than what it shows in the photo.

There is a BOP at a greenhouse near me that's gotta be at least 8 or 10 feet tall and just as wide and it's crammed into what looks like maybe a 26" pot. Every time i see it it has at least two blooms, but it looks fairly unhappy. I'd say if you think it's time to divide and repot it then do it for the blooms!

Mine is probably close to 6 feet. I'm sure if it's sawed apart and repotted it will sulk for a year or two before it blooms again, since it obviously won't be "pot-bound" any more for awhile.

Well, the deed is done. Unfortunately, the Spousal Unit had to SAW the pot off; there was no way the 2 of us could even slide it out of the pot. I hated to lose a good 20 inch pot, but.............

I first had him saw it in half, but after seeing the size of the "halves" I had him saw the halves in half again. There was one section of it that has 3 bloom spikes, so I tried to not disturb those too much. In order to get them to fit decent in the new pots, I also had to take a "saw knife" and cut about 6 inches off the whole bottom of the pieces. Talk about root-pruning.

I had told the SU that someone on one of the forums here had told me I'd probably have to use a Sawzall.............he told me "A sawzall would have NEVER cut through that". LOL

So, now I have 4 plants...............I only want 1. If they don't croak, perhaps I will try and sell the others in the spring. I have a pic of the carnage............still in the camera so I will do that later.
