Winter Tool Preparation

By Maridell

As part of preparing the garden for winter when freezing weather starts to approach, make sure to disconnect the garden hose from the house and drain the hose. Leaving the hose connected can cause damage to your hose, but worse yet -- it opens you up to the potential of a burst pipe.

We made the mistake of leaving our hoses connected when we first bought our house. It was a mess, both inside and outside!

Sorry that happened to you. A nice neighbor told my husband and I this when we were new home owners. One of my sister in laws was not so lucky...they had damage like you, inside and out.

I work at a boarding kennel where we have to bring two fifty foot hoses in and out when it's freezing out. Lots of work, but it beats the alternative!

I wish there was a time we could disconnect our hoses and drain them. Hilarious! We water all year here. It would be nice to take a winter break and drain and wind the hose up ! Whistling

Well, our winter may come with the "privilege" of not having to water,,,,but me thinks you would not like the trade off.... Big Grin

Smiling Actually I love snow and cold and having 4 seasons. Rolling on the floor laughing Our heat and drought are very draining and go on for a very long time. I grew up in Michigan and sure miss all that. Smiling

I admit I would probably miss it too. My main problem with winter is having to drive on slick roads, otherwise it is not so bad...

I sure missed the change of seasons while stationed in Hawaii. There's something just sooo wrong with hearing "I'm Dreaming of a White Christmas" as the palm trees sway... Thumbs down

We never know for sure if we are going to get our "white Christmas". Some times we don't get hit heavy with snow till January. I love the outdoor Christmas lights when there is snow!
