OK. Thanks. When the time comes, I will ask for detail on how to trim this back properly. I take it one you cut the large one down, it won't come back at all?

Right, once you cut a stem or fan out, it won't come back.

You probably won't have to trim it at all this year. It's a pretty foliage plant right now, and it looks like there's only one fan. IF you have room in the house, keep it going through the winter. They stay green here year 'round, so they don't need a dormant period.

Thank you , Elaine. I plan on bringing it near a bright window indoors. I'm afraid it will be in competition with many other plants wintering over indoors. At what temperature will I need to bring it in. Is it cold sensitive or just frost sensitive? Thanks for your help. This is my first BOP. no my second. My first died and untimely death thanks to me and my mishandling. I don't want to mess up this time.

Well, mine stay outside all year 'round, and we do get frost here occasionally. They are huge, and in the ground so well insulated.

I'd bring your bird inside when the nights start getting down into the 40's, I think. Otherwise it will slow down and not grow all winter if you let it get too chilled.

Saw this flower opening nicely as I strolled the garden today. It's crawling with little black ants, so I wonder what's in there to attract them?? I've seen mockingbirds drinking from the "boats" sometimes.

Flower scape is coming out of a low leaf axil on a stem that is at least 10ft. tall.

So pretty, Elaine! I heard the Giant BOP is "drippy". Maybe that is what the ants are attracted to??

Very impressive, I will be digging mine up and putting it a pot for the winter. This will be a first for me and since we are heating the GH this year I can keep it growing. Well,,, Hopefully I can keep it growing.

Actually, I am kinda surprised that mine hasn't bloomed in the g'house, since it is always very tropical in there in the winter.
