Rita I'm growing La Vie en Rose that you recommended and it has lots of fruits. I started tomatoes indoors extra early this year and it's paying off. Maybe I'll do two tomato crops this year! Got to put my new dehydrator to work.

Hurray! Hurray! Hurray! Hurray for first ripe tomatoes!!

You will love La Vie En Rose. Great production with lots and lots of large lovely looking tomatoes. Even more important is that it tastes absolutely divine!!

Its really a shame that more people don't know about it. If all the folks that grow only heirlooms because of their taste tried LVER it would be in all those gardens.

Rita, Thanks so much! And thanks for the recommendations, I will be trying those two next season. Always looking for something new to play with but seem to get overwhelmed whenever I'm just randomly browsing for seeds.

Yes, it is very difficult to know what to grow when trying to choose seeds. Seems like the descriptions all rave about how wonderful that particular variety is.

You will see some really awesome tomatoes at Wild Boar Farms. All his own intros.

You mentioned that your only growing cherry and grape types due to the fact that you don't get much of anything from the regular sized tomatoes. I wonder of you have tried the saladette types? Actually I think maybe even Golden Rave might be falling into that category. But I was thinking of the round ones. Tomatoes about the size of a golf ball or just slightly larger and usually round.

I get massive production from my saladettes. Some favorite Saladettes for me are the fantastic heirloom Jaune Flamme which is yellow orange and tastes increadable!!

Gypsy a chocolate tomato I bought seeds at Ohio Heirloom seeds. And a great pinkish red tomato that just sets like crazy and gives me tons of fruit is Amy's Sugar Gem.

I have to recommend all three.

With the saladette one gets the production of the cherry tomatoes but you just get a slightly bigger tomato.

This is my first Bradley tomato. I tried it still warm from the sun. I thought it had perfect flavor.

Got the seeds from tomatofest, its one of Gary's favorites, so I tried it. How can anyone argue with Gary's tastebuds?

This plant is so lush with leaves, i thought i had overdone the nitrogen again. Didnt expect to get any tomatoes. Now, im hoping the leaves will help protect the plant from the heat. Expect follow up around july.

We don't have tomatoes here usually til mid July or the first of August. May 15 th is often recommended as the first planting date. Some planted earlier this year got touched by frost.

@texaskitty111 That tomato looks so YUMMY!! I'm always on the look-out for red tomato varieties that can withstand the heat and produce! Please shoot me a tree mail 'bout your experience with this variety.

I, too, have LOTS of green tomatoes........but NO red, ripe ones yet!! And one variety still hasn't had not one flower yet ...plus it's growth is lagging noticeably!! I think it's the Special Turkish, waiting for its usual hotter temperatures. (I say "I think it's. . " because my garden helper moved two planters in place. . and then couldn't remember which was the Special Turkish and/or Big Beef. Shrug! Oh, Well! I'll know definitely after one has a ripe fruit: BB is red and SP is pink! Green Grin!

For a while, I began to wonder if I had done something wrong (no red tomatoes yet). Confused But then I remembered the earliest DTM I had was d65. . . . . Is there earlier varieties (slicers or bigger)?

Maybe there are early ones 60 days or so but that I think is about it. But then when you do get into extra early you usually sacrifice taste.

TK, that Bradley tomato is beautiful -- one more to add to my "need to try" list! I just discovered Tomatofest a couple of years ago and love their site Thumbs up

Bet, I agree with Rita -- not many (any?) larger tomatoes that will be earlier than 65 days (that IS an early tomato), and earlier ones don't seem to be very tasty.

Has anyone else tried "Mountain Magic" ? I grew it a few years back because a friend asked me to start some plants for him from the seeds that he had bought, and wasn't at all impressed with the flavor (or the production).

My Juliet keeps setting tomatoes and I keep picking them off. It's roughly a foot tall so I want it to put some growth on first. I can wait for tomatoes if it means a better plant. All of my tomato plants will take off this week I'm thinking. We have some temps in the high 80s coming up starting this weekend which usually means fast growth. Hurray!

Ugh, Paul. No worries about that near me -- none of the neighbors does much with their lawns other than mow, as far as I can tell (including us Hilarious! ). It's taken me quite a while to convince DH that we have a "country lawn" that just can't be expected to look like a "city lawn" !
