We've got plenty of blooms here. But then again, I guess there's a reason we got named "Land of Flowers". The azaleas are really starting to put on a show. It hasn't been cold enough to touch my more tender plants so the Brugmansia is still blooming, the Jatropha never stopped, the Pentas are half-blooming. I'm going to trim the Pentas down after our last frost date (Feb. 15) and see who flourishes, but I will have to replace a couple that died. And the porterweed has some leaves that look a little toasted, but they're still blooming. And if nothing else, I always have Spanish Needles and Tassel Flower. Oh, and the Dune Sunflowers I added last year have not stopped blooming at all! The bees love them. Speaking of bees, the Spiderworts are starting to bloom again and the bees will not stay off of them so that's good.
Not everything that's blooming here would be considered "worthy" by a lot of gardeners that garden purely for aesthetics, but if you're worried about the pollinators finding food, they've got plenty here.
I even instituted my annual moratorium barring my brother from mowing down by the road. I've got Virginia Pepper Grass coming back. Plus, I need to transplant more Corkystem Passion Vine. I've also got to go across the street and steal some Frogfruit. Not going to let the county mowers scalp it again.
