Taken 8/6/2014 in zone 5b. The plants along the back are all planted in a dug out low spot bordered with rocks. The center plantless area in the bed is an old shower basin made into a ground level bird bath and surrounded with flagstone. A sump pump discharge hose dumps over some rocks and then into the bird bath where water then overflows into the surrounding dug-out rain garden to keep these moisture loving plants happy. During drier periods I sweep water out of the bird bath into the rain garden with an old broom and fill it with fresh water from a hose.
