Every member makes their own reputation. Dominique told me privately that he was scammed by this member, and he asked if he should post to the forums about it to warn others.

I'm not getting involved, of course, but given that this alleged scammer has posted on this same forum, it seems good to get all sides of the story.

I always get leery when I see the word 'rare'. Uh hmmm. That is usually the code word to flee!

I consider some of the plants I grow 'rare' because you can't buy them in a nursery or garden center (usually, that is). I'm always on the lookout for something odd or unusual.
Then again things like Plumeria or other tropicals are considered rare in this area because they're not grown here.

It was my understanding that here on NGA and AllThingsPlants before that, we were to give only positive information about the sellers. Yes, that's on the Green Pages, but wasn't it asked a long time ago about negative feedback and didn't one or more of the Whitinger family say we wanted to keep things positive? There was some discussion here: The thread "Gardening Recommendations" in Site Talk forum

It would appear that Dominique joined NGA for the express purpose of slamming a supposed scammer (just my opinion). I'd be curious to know if Dominiquecordonnier made his purchase from an offering here over a year ago on this site, or if he purchased his plants elsewhere on the internet. Since NGA member Exoticcycads has not been around here for about 17 months, I am guessing it may be the latter. To my way of thinking, Dominique maybe should be posting his opinion as a negative reference on the site where he actually made the purchase.

Is there any way to contact Exoticcycads so he can know he is being slammed on this site? It might be interesting to hear what he was to say about the purchase, whether it originated here or elsewhere.

Just my 2 cents. I tip my hat to you.

I don't see why it matters if he purchased something from a scammer on this site, another site or 10 other sites. The person he purchased from is the same person no matter where that took place. If I get ripped off at siteA I am going to find all the sites the scammer posts on, siteB and siteC and so forth, and warn others. I don't see any wrong doing there.

That is a tough call. And who is to know what the other side of the story is?

Having more details of the story might be beneficial. I don't know what mail service is like from Camaroon, but perhaps it is slow or perhaps customs doesn't allow shipments of plant material between those countries.

I'm still a beginner, but I always buy locally. Part of that is just me, I prefer dealing with people face-to-face when it comes to gardening. I often pick up tid-bits of information that add to my gardening education in the process.
