I would definitely have given this a much hotter name, like glowing ember or something. Maybe it's just the chill here, lol. Anyway, gorgeous thing. The breeder should be very proud.

I agree Taqiyyah, it so striking and really stands out in a bed. It is a stable sport of an old (1969) Kevin Vaughn cultivar by the name of 'Ruby Heart'.

We do have a sempervivum by Ed Skrocki by the name of 'Glowing Embers'. It has similar coloring for a short period of time in the spring. Hen and Chicks (Sempervivum 'Glowing Embers')

I am hoping that it will take off growing strongly this spring and summer. I really love it.

Beautiful, both of them! Yep, they got the naming right for those two, lol.

Hi WarpJr.
A stable sport is when a plant mutates into different leaf color, or pattern, and it will not revert back to the original plant that it came from.
'Fame' can morph into a rosette with odd shaped leaves, 'Fame Monstrose', but it is not stable. It reverts back to the original 'Fame'.

And here is a photo of both forms coming from the original clone of 'Fame'. The next year they were all 'Fame' and no 'Monstrose'. You just never know what it will be from one year to the next.

You are welcome Warp. Yes, it was an offset that morphed and stood out from it's siblings. Chris isolated it and spent a number of years propagating and isolating out the ones that have the color he wanted.
