Rose names .... Rolling on the floor laughing Rolling on the floor laughing Oh, there are some really funny or strange rose names !

Two that immediately come to mind are "Happy Butt" and FUBAR.

HB was named after a very fine and dignified rosarian, but that name ... Rolling my eyes.

FUBAR was a rose bred by Sean McCann. Sean was had written several books on roses and wrote a regular column back in the day for the American Rose Society Magagize,. He was a true Irish gentleman and well loved in the rose world.

The rose was named after a nephew, I think that was the relationship, who came back from military service and was constantly walking around saying 'FUBAR". It's a military acronym that Sean did not know the meaning of. As a family site I can't spell out the first word, but it means ..."F'd up beyond all recognition."

If I checked my notes, there are many other roses with names that make you just shake your head in wonder and say "What were they thinking ?"
I'd rather weed than dust ... the weeds stay gone longer.

FUBAR sounds as if it might have possibilities in one's growing vocabulary.

Today actually is Rose Day, so anything in our database could be the Rose of the Day, but it's also Ballet Day, so I'll concentrate on that instead.

Ballet is a lovely Kordes hybrid tea.

Sequoia Ballet is a Ralph Moore grandiflora.

And now, for the ballerinas: Ballerina is a hybrid musk.

Baby Ballerina is a mini.

Red Ballerina (Marjorie Fair) is another hybrid musk.

And Prima Ballerina is a Tantau hybrid tea.

It would be great to have the energy to keep up more garden space wouldn't it!

Neal, right now I still have more than enough energy for the space we have. I believe your garden is a little larger than ours so it is hard to say how I would cope if I had more. But a girl (or boy) can dream, can't she? Hilarious!

I agree Hilarious!

However, I'm not sure my back would like more digging, so if I ever get a bigger garden, the first thing on my shopping list would be a tiller - preferably an accident-prone one! Big Grin

PS: For those not familiar with the Irises Forum, a 'tiller accident' is something which is very likely to happen when you have bought more irises than you can fit into your (planned) beds and you need more room - even if your significant other prefers to keep the (ever shrinking) lawn... Whistling

Today I was outside walking around my garden in a flannel shirt - beautiful, sunny 61 degrees. Later tonight, the temps are suppose to dip down to 20 degrees. In the morning, a blizzard 12" - 14" of snow. Can you believe this?
While strolling around outside, I realized there is partially shaded area where I would like plant a rose. Is anyone familiar with the rose named Rose de Rescht?
Suggestions for a partially shady area are welcome, however, no light pink colors or climbers.
Thanks a bunch
