Why am I subjecting y'all to snaps of Boston Flower Show? Hoping you'll see beyond the lousy photography.

Had a great time. Not as venerated as Philly Show but far less crowded. We flew to Boston, so I couldn't buy much. Did pick up a few unusual trumpet lily bulbs, calla lilies and hardy cyclamen. Ate well and often.

Fabulous!! I've been hoping you'd drop in with photos. I thought that arrangement with all the moss was really cool looking... and then I enlarged it and about spit coffee all over the computer!

That red epi is really something, too.

I'm glad you picked up some fun bulbs!

Even a single pot of orchids in bloom is striking... seeing massed blooms like this is just indescribable. I wish the photos did them justice.

Jill, those orchid displays remind me of when I first walked into Phipps pseudo rain forest, Enchanting. That's the name of their current spring display: Enchanted Forest. I may need to ride to Pittsburgh Big Grin .

Hi Jill, breathtaking pictures. Thank you! I have never been to the show. While in Philadelphia in my friend's apartment, she said, it is too crowded. So I never went. My friend was a nurse in HUP, and I visited her every 3-days week-ends, went to friends' farm in Souderton to have picnics, but never went to the garden show. I still cannot believe it. I should have just gone on my own, without her! That was before 1981 before she moved to live in the Netherlands. And again, I never saw the outside tulips fully in blooms, I am always too early or too late. Now she is no more. Passed away in 2011.

Anyway, thank you thank you Jill for all those pictures. The only orchids I have are phalaenopsis.
I manage to keep them alive and have them rebloom now and then. They do not like full sun, but like filtered sunlight. Water them once a week. That's it. I had a lot once upon a time and then I bought one which had bugs in it, and it killed the whole collection. I tried to kill the bugs with alcohol, etc. etc., finally threw every single one away and I did not buy any other one for a long time, until I was sure that none of the bugs survived. That was a nightmare of mealybugs experience. Now I check new plants carefully before I add it to the 'group'.

I always seem to save the dooryards, tablescapes, other arrangements until last.. and then I'm sorry I don't have more time/energy to properly appreciate them! I don't remember seeing "windowsills" in previous years (window boxes, yes, but not little bay windows).

That last photo is a collection of "rain chains" for sale... I don't think I've seen ones with so much "bling" before, but I liked them! That would be a good way to practice wire-wrapping, maybe with some copper electrical wire...

The door yards are always a fav of mine, can't miss display. I agree with you about the windows. They are huge and even though they are pretty I don't like them near as much as the old smaller displays.

I did like the "window" with the collection of blue & white china planters... looked like something that you might actually find, maybe in the house of a favorite aunt... The ones that were more of an art installation didn't interest me much.

I have a pair of kid-sized wooden shoes I picked up in Holland (just before Joyanna came along)... they don't fit her any more LOL, and now I know what to do with them... hanging planters! Their shape will work better hanging than sitting on the sill... love finding little ideas like that at a show!

These next photos are from the children's garden installation... always a favorite.

Thank you for sharing all the photos, Jill. BEAUTIFUL!!! Wish I had made the trip, but your photos make I feel it is so much easier to just look at your photos at the PC and let you do all the leg work, haha! Rolling on the floor laughing

As it turned out, my trip to Charleston didn't happen because of the snow storm. Oh well, next year then -- to the flower show that is.

Next year, for sure! We thought staying right there at Days Inn worked pretty well... not sure we're willing to settle for airport hotel digs next year, even if it is half the price! We'll see. Smiling
