Never seen this before in all the years of having amaryllis, which probably just means I don't have enough amaryllis. A bud that dried up, the other stalk has flowers on it, any thoughts?

I've had it once myself, the second scape appeared and dried up. For some reason that scape just isn't viable. It would be interesting to check the bulb after the blooming is finished to see if there is an obvious defect on the growth plate under the dried up bud. I also wonder if there is some kind of larva that has destroyed that bud. This one is a wait and see situation.

I had this happen to me once also. I also read (maybe in Hippeastrum : The Gardener's Amaryllis by Veronica M. Read??) that this can happen from time to time. One of the reasons the book gave was that the bulb was kept in dormancy for too long, especially if the bulb was not kept cool enough. There were probably other reasons as well, but I can't remember them. Anyway, when it happened to me, the bulb was fine and went ahead an bloomed again the next season.

Does not appear that anything is amiss, just did not bud out.

addendum to the dried up bud question: The other 2 bulbs had second buds dried up, when removed from the bulb it looked like the previous pic. The primary stalks and flowers have no problem, thinking it may have been some old bulbs the wholesaler was trying to dump.
Anyway great flowers, they will be set out when it starts to warm up and I will start the process all over again.
