Thank goodness Shadow can run fast and fit into small spaces. The fox chased him yesterday and this morning but was not able to catch him.

naughty indeed! Fox should stick to catching voles!

Wonder if he was chasing for a potential meal or defending territory?

Speaking of fox, when I was headed out for work yesterday, there was a fox trotting across the road. It was unusual in that the front half was red/brown and the back end was grey/brown. It looked healthy, so I figure is was in the midst of it's shedding stage to prep for snow.

This morning, there was a 4-point buck standing in the middle of the road at the bottom of my driveway. When coming home from Sam's, there were 3 turkey vultures fighting over a small carcass in the road. That's the first time I've seen vultures in the neighborhood.

As I was pulling into the driveway this morning, I saw 2 red fox coming through the neighbor's yard. They both looked healthy and very alert. Maybe the squirrel and chipmunk populations will finally start to decrease.

Rick, I happened to see a beautiful red fox the other morning. First time spotting one in a couple of years. This one looked very healthy too.

you'd think .. voles too may be fox chow
Haven't seen a fox lately but have a red tailed hawk doing frequent flybys.
Plant it and they will come.

maybe red foxes will be the next urban predator (like coyotes).

I've had it with these frickin' tree rats, also known as squirrel. Not only are they tearing up the yard, they're now chewing off my rhododendron to use for building a nest. Between yesterday and today, I've picked up almost 3 dozen leaf clusters! My Capistrano, which was doing great has been completely stripped. It 's been in the ground for almost 7 years and producing more flower every year. If it doesn't come back, it will be all out war. If it means importing a bunch of feral cats to get rid of the tree rats and chipmunk, so be it. I'm done.

D*!# CHIPMUNKS!

I've been having an issue with critters of some sort living in my cars. They've even managed to chew up the seat in the corolla. I thought I was rid of them. Wrong!

I did a bit of grocery shopping on my way home from work today. Well, I managed to leave something in the car. I laid down for a few hours (a 97 hour 2-work-week will tucker a guy out). When I went out to the car, they had struck again. I found what was left of my cheese under the seat. The only 'edible' thing in the car was a bag of bait blocks, which they started chewing into as well.

So, how do I know it's chipmunks and not field mice? When I pulled in the carport a little bit ago, I saw one of the furry little A-holes sitting in the carport wondering where the car was.

Oh yeah, IT'S ON!

Finding the cheese, is one thing, but destroying the upholstery- that really hurts. (A neighbor had squirrels eating deck chair pads) Maybe the bait blocks will have already started their job.
Plant it and they will come.

Anybody doing the Great Backyard Bird Count? It started Friday and goes through tomorrow... You don't have to do all 4 days, and you don't even have to pay attention to the birds all of one day, even an hour or two of observation at your feeders or in your backyard will help. Go to https://gbbc.birdcount.org/

Now, I think they've chewed up the impeller blades on the Scion heater fan. It's not sounding too good.

Momma chipping sparrow decided to nest right in front of my front door. D'Oh! Fortunately she became very accustom to our comings and goings (and my super curious investigations). Got to watch the hatching, eating, turn into fledglings, and then one day I came out and they were just gone. Cool while they were there!

This little fella just chilled out while I cleaned out some garden pots. I'm banging around and he's just watching.
