I was warned by one of the Japanese Maple nurseries in Northern California that my Japanese Maples would not have the same intensity of spring and fall color in Bakersfield because it's not cold enough here in the winter, and Shaina provides a perfect example of this. The Shaina at my friends' home in Vancouver, WA was the most spectacular intense coral pink color, and when I returned to Bakersfield a couple of days later I just had to take a picture of my Shaina in late spring. I still really love it -- but what a difference! Oh well, I'll take whatever color I can get!
