I found two scapes on two different plants this week.
The photo below shows the dark leaves of one of them; all my other ones have green leaves rather than this dark shade. Is this unusual?

I have 2 that have a reddish cast on the leaves when they are small; also the stalks, they have been doing it for several years. The stalk and leaves to the left of the Gervase amaryllis. I think it may be Apple Blossom

I think the leaf color is related to the particular cultivar. Maybe five percent of mine show red leaves and stalks when they emerge from the ground.

Betsy, that is Hippeastrum striatum which is a species not a hybrid. A very common garden amaryllis in the Southern garden. An early bloomer.

I must confess, I get a little jealous of you Southerners who get to garden most of the year through.

Here's what popped up at my house. There were two other blooms that hadn't open yet as of the time of the picture.
