You know, it's a lot easier to drool over the photos on the internet than to grow these plants! I wish the silk flower people would start making fake Adeniums--

Please Help !
Received 2 in a Swap...

One has dropped leaves like crazy.... I moved both to the Bathroom hoping for high Humidity...

I've read up on Adeniums and the watering advice spans "don't water" to "Water heavily"... so not sure what I'm doing wrong but the #2 adenium with a LOT of leaves has dropped ONE leaf today so I'm panicking and watered it... I also watered the now "leaf less" one which now looks as though it might be sprouting a leaf. I'm in 8B and keeping these inside for the winter in my bathroom.. High Humidity and filtered sunlight during the day...
any advice ?
(HUGS)

They need as much light as you can give, DO NOT OVER WATER, at this time of year it is normal for them to lose leaves if they are going dormant, a lot of the leaves have fallen from mine, in the winter mine are in the house in front of large windows, I water very lightly once a week.

Doris very good advice. maryandlance email me your email and i have a paper that i send with any i sell and it relay explains what doris is telling you. I am in Florida and consider myself 8Balso i have 45 of them outside and 50 inside i think with my paper and a few websites and how i take care you will find you can figure out by your climate how to take care of it BUT STOP WATERING TILL YOU GET MORE INFO you will kill them a lot quicker by over watering them right now then underwater.

my email is [email protected] i cant send threw tree mail it is a word document.

i did not write the letter it is from 4 different sites and compiled from them it is almost 5 pages long

if any one wants a copy ill send it by email for free!!!!

Mary, if the potting mix is very wet at all, this time of year, it is deadly.

Humidity isn't the important thing here. Think, warmth, light, and air circulation.

I would gently turn both pots upside down, letting the whole ball of "dirt" into your waiting hand. Then, gently set the thing on a small pile of newspapers, to let the excess moisture be drained off. Yes, potless. I do this occasionally with my plants.

The water inside a pot will go rancid, most foul, moldy. It needs more air circulation than the pot will allow.

Let the plants, I'd do both of them, sit for several days, until the "dirt" is only very slightly moist. "This is the dangerous time of year" says Yasmin, a seasoned grower.

When you put the plants back in the pots, they might not go all the way in, that's OK. And it's good to have a bit of space between the "dirt" and the pot, for air circulation. Adeniums need more air to their roots than just about any other plant on Earth. No, my friends?

The only time you can safely be generous with water is with a plant that has developed LOTS of roots for the pot that it is in, and that plant must be actively growing new leaves, with big leaves already. Water must be respirated, breathed out of the plants. They are called DESERT roses for a good reason. No leaves, or flowers with no leaves, the plant is dormant, but will drink itself to a horrid death of rot. Ugh: slimy, ugly rot.

Good luck, and don't leave us, no pun intended. Post photos if you can. And let us know what happens.

Group hug group hug to you, no matter what happens. Haha, we love your plants!

Well said melissa took words right out of my mouth/text. I have lost 3 older ones to rot till i replanted all of mine old ones in to unglazed clay pots and i even use orchid pots to help supply air to the roots when i have them all on my grow stand inside i have a heater going to keep it almost 80 degrees but i have to have a fan going i water only small amounts and want them kinda dry in 24-48 hrs with this done they really do well

i have to say the key to them is sun i have not seen any problems with to much sun in middle of summer here 105 full sun all i have to do is make sure they get water then but if mine start to drop leaves anytime in the summer i bet i had it where it dosnt get the sun.

good luck and ask questions there are a lot of people that can give help. some live in the tropics and some live all the way in canada.

Mike, I probably need some more of the doulbe purple in the spring. I puppy pulled them out of the pots to play with when I was at work. I think 2 of them did not make it and 1 seems to be OK. I just want some more just in case.

I have had some mystery leaf eaters in the last couple of days, also. Didn't see the buggars, and they only attacked individual plants, not any neighbors. Hum.

I do so hate rot. Boooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

Mandala, Mike had back surgery the other day, so he's probably not keeping up with the threads right now.
