As a comment about Coral Drops (Bessera elegans), jmorth wrote:

Obtained these at an end of season sale just to give them a shot. Impressive results. Bloom starts late summer, last well into fall. Grown in container overwintered dry in basement. Plant is native to Mexico and Texas. Listed Z 8 - 10. Each corm can produce up to 30 bell-shaped, coral red flowers. Hummingbird pollinated.
Close inspection reveals exotic green colored pollen and a most uniquely colored very purple pistil.

Jmorth, what an interesting plant. Does it have the same water requirements as the Gloriousa Lily? I see you overwinter it the same way I over winter my G. lily.

I will see about giving this a try.

Lynn, I grow and overwinter both side by side (left dry in container overwinter; re-pot or freshen pot mid to late spring, place outside when warm enough). The Bessera blooming starts in earnest about the time some of the Gloriosa's start to decline. Definitely worth the effort. I think mine, started with 10, are in a 12" plastic pot. Brent and Becky carries them.

Thank you jmorth. I had looked them up and did find them at the Brent and Becky web site. I will definitely order some in the spring.
