Doesn't sound good for sure. The only way to be sure is to unpot and check. If the tuber isn't rotted and toast, it might set it back a tad but won't harm it. Possibly the tuber itself is okay and might send up new sprouts??

I've had some mushy ones on the clumps but remove them and they did fine. If it's a lone tuber that has gone to mush it's bad news. Since it's the stem that's mushy, I'd lift it and check the tuber.

Well there was only one of the 11 I was waiting for sprouts on, which has rotted. I have duplicates so no loss there. Those planted in the ground are doing very well the tallest are about 18" now.

I just got my first 10 Dahlia in the ground today in my garden shed garden. I am not sure what is what. I may have lots of duplicates since I was matching similar leaves where I planted. I planted only the biggest ones that were in pots. Lots more to plant. Just not sure where.

I tried to go out and water but the wind is terrible and the temp is still 90 degrees at almost 6:00. Hopefully, it will calm down a little later so I can water veggies. I wanted to plant 4 tomato and 2 bush cucumber but decided to wait.
Yard decor, repurposing, and flowers,

Mine are doing fine except for Lady Darlene that had sprouts but they're still not even at ground level, and one Vancouver. I've been busy working in the garden that faces the street and there's probably two more days work there. The heat is not making it easy but my beach umbrella, hoisted on a copper pipe, works like a charm to give me shade.

My Lady Darlene has turned out to be a dud Sad I'm also realizing my 2 x 50' beds of Dahlia are germinating more bindweed than I can keep up with. For some reason, the 'Daisy' that did sprout out of 2 has decided to wilt rapidly. Not sure why. Recent rains have given the Dahlias a bit of a boost.

It's when we have a rough time trying to grow specific dahlias that we end up giving up on that one. This is Lady Darlene's last chance. It's grow or "never again" time.

Then we have the ones that grow so well, like AC Paint (thank you so much, Dan). I've had it for a few years and it thrives.

The planted out dahlias are looking great! The warmth and sunshine have helped them to really hit their stride. You can see their growth everyday.

You're very welcome, Arlene! AC Paint is a very interesting dahlia with every bloom (and sometimes form) a little different. I'm anxious to hear opinions from others to whom I gave tubers.

I gave away all but two Lady Darlene tubers this spring. One tuber had a short sprout but it just seemed to dry up. I planted the other and just discovered that two labels were stuck together. So I could have a Lady Darlene or an Alpen Pauline. As long the plant grows and blooms, I'll be happy with either.

My dahlias are looking great mornings and evenings, not so great during the mid-day sun. They really wilt but always perk up when it cools a bit. We're supposed to be in the mid-80's this week, so I'll be doing a lot of watering. Several plants are over knee-high. This morning, I found three of my plants had a lot of earwig damage. Most of the top set of leaves had been eaten. I'll be topping the plants soon so that set of leaves would probably have been tossed anyway. I found many small earwigs curled up in the leaves. Must be from a recent hatch since they're only about 1/3 the size I normally see. I've dusted with Diatomaceous Earth but I think the 'wigs may be using it as an appetizer. I'll begin spraying soon.

I have a hard time believing an article I once read that said earwigs are more beneficial than harmful since they also eat a lot of undesirable insects. My question is, when will they begin doing this beneficial work and leave my dahlias alone? And will I have any left? I suppose this early damage I'm seeing is part of the price we sometimes pay for having milder winters without enough bug killing temps. I hear it's supposed to be a "banner" year for ticks, too.
