E-mail from Hidden Springs Flower Farm says 2012 catalog is now online. I checked and there were no species peonies, fern leafs for me, listed. Last year he had too few eyes to market them. They are slow to increase so there may be a shortage again this year. I was hoping for a guaranteed named red double. P.tenuifolia rubra flore plena.

Shoot, Jerry, I was hoping for some species from there also. I purchased some from Seneca Hills before they went out of business, and I was hoping to get some more.

This year, 2011 season, they waited until spring weather arrived before they did their count. We may have good news in the spring.

I bought a species P.tenuifolia (single red) and an 'Early Scout' fern leaf hybrid in 2009 plus another fern leaf hybrid 'Windchimes' in 2010. Satisfied with all three. They have a good selection of standard peonies also. I bought 'Hermione' and 'Chestine Gowdy' last year also and they appear to be in good shape.

I had sent an e-mail to them requesting to be put on a waiting list in case they would have some for sale this year. Their online catalog site had an entry that they would contact customers on their waiting list before posting any species in their catalog. If you want a species peony from them you had better get into line early.

Received an e-mail from Hidden Springs saying their species peonies are now online. I ordered the double red fern leaf since they will be scarce. $45 plus $11.50 shipping is a premium price but, for a premium product, I have no problem with it. I already have as many as 5 double reds which were divided from one my wife's grandmother gave her 30 years ago but I wanted one from an expert to verify mine are true species types. The single red species purchased from HS appears to be doing fine so, hopefully, I expect to see some blooms this year.

I saw the owner at a peony convention a couple years ago. He is very knowledgeable and I always love to hear folks that are super excited about peonies. It's certainly his passion.

Someone on a previous forum, may have been DG, said they had a fern leaf which was pink or rose colored instead of red. HS has a species peony, paeonia tenuifolia rosea, listed for sale for $125. The person mentioned may have a valuable, very scarce species sample.

Hi folks": Just jumping in here. New to Cubits last year and trying my way around here. Definate peony lover first love, iris second. Must have em all. Not possible. What are there, 40,000-80,000? That is what I have been told. Anyway, see you are talking about species.

Does any one know of a good reliable source for purchasing the "Molly The Witch", p. mlokewetschii (spelling).? Pictures are not mine, just used for reference. I have a yellow one given to me from someones's grandmother and they do not know the name. Will try to find snapshot and send later if needed is someone can identify it. If anyone has this, I would love to trade and or purchase and also get any other info on purchasing this particular one.

Also have the Early Scout and a couple other species. Will check out Hidden Springs. Have a list of species I am looking for. Have purchased from klehm's Song Sparrow and Hollingsworth. Great roots. doglover

HS has a good selection of what you are seeking. (I won't even try spelling it). The nice thing about HS is you can order the scarce species early then add to the order later before shipping time. He will combine the shipping into one order.

Edit: I should have checked before commenting. His current online catalog doesn't have Molly. I must have remembered it from previous listings.

Edit again: I was looking for the wrong name. He lists 3 Paeonia daurica mlokosewitschii

Picotee form $75
Pink form $65
Yellow form $100

Hidden Springs Flower Farm owned and operated by Harvey Buchite. He was president of the American Peony Society. Website is HiddenSpringsFlowerFarm.com. Regarding the size of roots or clumps, he explains the difference between species and common or lactiflora peonies. I have purchased from him twice and now have an advance order for this fall. I am satisfied as to their quality and the way they handle customers.

The species peonies are scarce and sell out quickly so one must order early. Shipping is the typical September/early October period.

Checked HSFF website and saw they were sold out of most of their species peonies. They are difficult and slow to propagate and are in limited quantities. April 1 is early to run out of peonies since they do not ship until mid-September. Order early.

When my yellow blooms this year I will try to remember to posts pictures, possibly someone could tell me if what I have is Molly The Witch. It was given to me and they did not know the name. Marsha
