Never tried the LED gardens. I assume the only good growing is the immediate area actually lit by the LED. But LED is pretty efficient...

@5601Lisa - This morning I was reading the emails that I get from my subscription with Cook's Illustrated and saw an evaluation of indoor gardens. This is one of the best cooking magazines/online resources because they do lots of comparisons of products, giving their top winner recommendations and why. They also do lots of technique articles which is great for someone like me that just doesn't know these things. I'm not sure if this link to their indoor kitchen gardens evaluation article will work for non subscribers, but here it is if it does. The top choice was Click and Grow Smart Garden 9.
