Lately a lot of the plant of the day featured plants have not had the "required' three members showing to own the plant. So my question is being it appears some people own the plant but don't show as having it, and many who do have it never respond, should the requirement for three or more people showing to own the plant just be dropped? It seems like a good rule at the time, but it does not appear to be serving it's intended purpose.

It may be that for some people, the plant is too new to comment on.
Evaluating an iris seedling, hopefully for rebloom

I am sure that is the case for many people not commenting who have the plant, I know for me it is a big problem being most of my plants are fairly new to my garden. That is one more reason that requirement of three members having the plant really is of very limited value, maybe several people own the plant but they have only had it a few months. It seems quite a few recently have not had many if any people who show to have the plant. Maybe the requirement should be 10 or more people to own the plant, or maybe there should just be no such requirement? It would be a lot easier to come up with a list of ten plants that way, but not sure that is the best way. I know I want to know about plants I am interested in buying, but for me to respond with any info about a plant of the day I need to have owned it for at least a season and three would be much better. So maybe the requirement should be to only list plants you have owned for three years or more, instead of that the plant be shown to be owned by three people or more?
Still the whole purpose of this was to get more comments about the daylilies and even though not perfect I do think that goal is being met to some extent just how it is.
I love the daylily of the day feature, just wish I could add more to the comments and hope others will also.

Well, I am just happy to see at least one comment. A number of cultivars have had no comments.

I still wonder if everyone understands you can always add a comment to a plant of the day that has been featured, it is not necessary to comment on the day the plant is actually featured . I know at first that seemed to be causing some confusing for a few people. Too, this feature has only be around a short while really, so people like me who have a lot of new plants will be adding comments over the coming seasons as we learn more about how our plants do over the course of time.

This thread is confusing. I did not know that there were rules or expectations associated with the daylily of the day.

Care to enlighten me?

I just saw this thread, so will give my opinion about the 3 owners requirement.

It is a little disappointing when a cultivar is featured and no one posts an evaluation of the plant. There are some in the "Daylily of the Day" list that have no evaluations at all. Partly because I don't check cultivars for 3 owners any more. I trust that members here submitting a cultivar to be featured will do that. But I know some members either aren't posting their evaluations or didn't see the cultivar listed.

If we don't impose a rule about how many own the cultivar, then I imagine many people would post brand new cultivars that no one has and there again would possibly be even more cultivars listed with no evaluations.

Here is the thread for all the Daylily of the Day cultivars (except the most recent cultivars listed on the Daylily Forum):
https://garden.org/barn/potd/a...

Remember that you can post a new evaluation EACH YEAR that you own a cultivar and get another acorn. I know that plants can change over the course of time. Some do well and some don't. Positive and negative information is accepted and helpful to anyone trying to decide if a particular cultivar would be a good purchase for their area, climate, and zone.

Acorns can be used for the Not-a-Raffle Raffle to receive more daylilies (like this month with 2 vendors donating daylilies)!!! But if for no other reason, please post an evaluation of a plant to share information with other gardeners. Newly acquired plants as well as established plants can be evaluated and all info is considered helpful as long as you are describing your experience with any given cultivar.

Thank You! Thank You! Thank You!

So glad I caught sight of this Thread! I had no idea there was a list of the Daylily of the Day. Thank you so much for giving the link, Becky. Is there a way to put that link on my Customized Homepage, so I could check it frequently?

I also had no idea that we could continue to add information and photos well after the day it was listed. That opens up a whole new world of sharing.

Thank you, Larry for starting this Thread. I've always enjoyed looking at it. Most of my Daylilies are so much older, but I like to add comments when I have them. And thanks to Jon and Becky for informing us when one of ours is up for the Day.

@HemNorth,
When you enter the daylily forum, over on the right are two boxes, in the second box down the fourth link will be "Daylily of The Day Archive".
