I have a brother who lives in Zapata, TX and I told him today that I would love to send he and his wife a start next year of one of the Daylilies that I grow.

The Daylily I'm thinking of is an early midseason, semi-evergreen diurnal. I don't know if Daylilies can grow that far south in TX, so I'm asking y'all for help. I know it's south of Laredo.

If I can send him the plant, when is the best time to plant in south TX?

They don't grow any (and haven't grown) Daylilies on their property at this time.

Thanks everyone for your help! Thumbs up

Marilyn, the experts will be chiming in soon, but my vote is if they will grow just fine in Phoenix, Arizona (lyle627), they should grow just fine in Zapata, Texas. Big Grin I am way upstate from there, but I will still be planting for at least two more weeks. We haven't had our first hard freeze yet, and probably won't for some time. That far south, I'd say they can plant pretty much anytime from now through April or May, when it starts getting hot.
It’s okay to not know all the answers.
