Hi Mike,

I just moved and this cactus is in my new yard ... I've read that the fruit is indeed edible and that it has a mild, sweet flavor. I do not like thorny plants and will probably dig this one up. I have a friend who wants it so it won't go in the compost. Smiling

Mike, I can't imagine trying to ship something as fat around as this cactus ... thorns are awful. Oh, I'm Northeast of Orlando ... in Daytona Beach.

yea that can be a hassle im getting ready to ship a cactus thats big and thorns are bad. i am cutting the thorns off with side cutters and i make a lot of boxes myself. at least it is not going in to the compost heap that would be sad. i have never been to Daytona beach can you believe it i have lived in the Orlando area for 14 yrs and gone to coca beach and the west coast but never up there. mabe some day,

did you just move to florida? if so where where you before?

Mike, I've been in Florida almost 46 years, I was born and raised in coastal Virginia - I moved to Florida when I was 19. I remember Orlando before Disney, when it was a kind of sleepy little town. My husband and I would travel I-4 from Orlando to St. Petersburg and only see one or two other cars on the road the entire trip! Now I-4 is a parking lot. But, like many other areas of the country, all of Florida has changed and grown and has too much traffic! Sad
