It looks like a lovely "mini pine tree" plant, Crassula tetragona:

You're right, Tiffany, that's exactly what that is...I had a stand of those on the property that had naturalized...dunno how it ended up labeled as sedum.....

What "regular" zone are you in, BTW? I've had a small bit of C. tetragona in an outside mini garden for a few yrs.

That was in Sunset zone 23 sub-tropical SoCal, since then we've moved and are in Sunset zone 17, Banana Belt far Northwestern California, 3 blocks off the Pacific...whole different ballgame...LOL...

Sunset zones help us out here, dunno about elsewhere, figure out all of our various micro climates...one size fits all generaally doesn't work....BUT, sub=tropical zone 23 probably is USDA Zone 9, not quite 10.

I was surprised by this plant...it was given to me and underappreciated...I stuck it in the ground way down in back beneath Eucalyptus trees and ignored it. A couple of years later, I noticed it had naturalized and produced a great stand of them and then it WAS appreciated. I saw no value in it, for myself, as a pot plant, but love it planted in the ground

Fascinating, TYVM! I value it as it manifests its' nickname, "mini pine tree." In a mini garden, individual stems do look like a weird little mini tree. It sounds like your winters are slightly warmer than mine. I'm inspired to stick a few stems in the ground and see what they think of winter in LA (lower Alabama, LOL,) without the shelter of a porch roof blocking rain.

My property in SoCal was frost-free and the plant never got watered...only winter rains which during those years was amounting to maybe 6" a year....
