Howdy. My name is Ed and me an my wife are trying to start up a vegetable garden this year. We're located in south Alabama about 50 miles south of Montgomery. We live in a rural area and our soil is "sandy" according to the soil test results from Auburn. We've grown some vegetables in the past, mostly tomatoes, some squash, and odds-n-ends in some 4x8 beds but that was a few years ago. I consider us as being rank newbies.

I see that there is a southeast gardeners' forum so I will continue on there.

Sounds like you are off to a good start by having your soil tested.

Southeast Gardening Forum is a good choice.

We also have a daily gardening thread - not specific to any region; we each say what we did in our gardens each day (or sometimes what we didn't do). I find lots of encouragement there:
