Thanks. I have read many articles this morning, and I'm contacting rehabilitation centers on info so I am better prepared next time.

Yes, good for you for trying at least. Maybe invest in a small net of some kind, like a butterfly net? That way you can scoop up a bird easily and gently without damaging it or being afraid of it hurting you.

When I've had to trap birds that my cat brought into the house (once there was a big magpie!) I've thrown a small towel over the bird first. It feels safer if it is under cover, then you can scoop it up in the towel and carry it to where it will be safe. I also had a small hawk get into my pool cage last year, (big hole in the screening, since fixed) and it allowed me to throw a large towel over it, to transport it out. I was REALLY scared of that one.

Thanks everyone! You have made me feel better. I was so upset...

@dyzzypyxxy, Thank you for the net and towel idea! I am going to look for a net. My aunt used to living in Sarasota, however, she now lives in Bradenton. She tells me it is wonderful down there! She used to tell me about the manatees that were basically in her back yard lol! Smiling

Last Friday, I did spot Nelly during that day's stroll. And, I did manage to record a sequence of her demonstrating a new facet of her fishing techniques:

I don't believe that she caught the fish, but it did make for some interesting images.

I have a friendly Cardinal that hangs out in the garden. He eyes my cherry tomatoes but I have them covered so he instead flies up to the Patio singing to me till I go outside and put extra seed in the hanging feeder just for him. It has become an every day thing. If I am busy in the yard he follows me around till I 'get the hint'. Hilarious!

Aww, so sweet when they do that. I had a young titmouse land on a tree less than 2ft. from me this morning as I was filling my bird feeder. I heard his wings, turned slowly and there he was. I spoke nicely to him, he fluttered away a bit then came back. Wish I'd had my camera handy!

I love bird stories like these! Thank you for sharing them! My son has a crow that watches out for him. It's always there when he comes home from work but my son never thought anything of it until one evening, the creature was making a terrible fuss. My son went inside only to hear a worsening racket that just wouldn't let up. So he went back outside to see what was going on. The crow was there and seemed to be yelling at him and pointing with his beak. My son said he was standing there going, "What, WHAT???!!!" Eventually, he looked in the direction in which the bird seemed to be pointing and there on the ground was his tie. He had dropped it. As soon as he picked it up, the crow quieted down and then, after being thanked, flew away. Angel

Always looking for interesting plants for pollinators and food! Bonus points for highly, and pleasantly scented plants.
