I never saw a Piggly Wiggly either until we moved from Illinois to Texas in - wait for it - 1962. I wasn't married tho. My mother had married husband #2. (she had 3 and then got dementia. cause and effect?)

There used to be another brand of stamps. Can't think of the name but think they were yellow. Maybe they were only in the South.

Piggly Wiggly is the name of a supermarket? That is funny!

I grew up in Venice and went to Samohi. I'm guessing that you grew up in the San Fernando Valley by your name....???

I've been in Florida for the past 50 years and I haven't seen a Piggly Wiggly in a long time. The very first one opened in 1916, in Memphis, Tn. I figured they went out of business because of so many larger grocery stores moving in but apparently there are still a few around with the Piggly Wiggly name: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/...

Being only 60 I don't consider myself having reached geezerdom yet but I remember all three. I kid you not I still have some framed oriental pictures hanging on the wall that my husband and I got with green stamps 43 or 44 years ago. The funny part is we had more compliments on those over the years than just about anything.
If you guys think Piggly Wiggly is a funny name for a grocery store, we had a store in our town when I was growing up that was called Greater Gator. Hilarious!
I am a strong believer in the simple fact is that what matters in this life is how we treat others. I think that's what living is all about. Not what I've done in my life but how I've treated others. ~~ Sharon Brown

Thank you for the rest of the story Baja.

OT, but I just gotta add: Did you know that you can still listen to Paul Harvey's wonderful stories? Some of them are Paul Harvey's son, but they are still just as wonderful Hurray!

With my green stamps I bought a barber kit. I've been cutting my husband's hair ever since, and that original barber kit is still in use. I remember all of the other references too!

Isn't today Raffle day? I'm patiently waiting!

Well I'm waiting on lunch as I have no food in the house. So maybe after I go somewhere to chow down, the winners will be posted. Sure would like to break my 500 S&H Green Stamps record but whether I do or not, I will be most happy for all winners.

So where is Fountain, FL, @gingin? Maybe @JamesAcclaims might want to drive there because he's never had the pleasure of shopping at a Piggly Wiggly aka Hoggly Woggly aka 'The Pig'.

But do they still have S&H Green Stamps?

Did they maybe have a picture of corn on them? Could be faulty eyesight or faulty memory, either being highly possible, that makes me picture them that way. At least I got the color right.

Top Value Stamps ... gee, I'd forgotten the name but remembered there were yellow stamps that people collected too; they were almost as popular as the S&H Green Stamps! I found a photo of the Top Value book on e-bay: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintag...

I think I remember the name Gold Bond Stamps too ... or maybe I'm thinking of something else like Gold Bond Powder. Rolling on the floor laughing Rolling on the floor laughing Rolling on the floor laughing

But wait! What I'm remembering was called King Korn.

In 1953, fifteen Iowa food merchants put together the money to start a stamp business to compete with S&H Green Stamps. The company was worth $350,000 in its first year and $75 million in 1966.

King Korn is a new one to me ... sounds like there may have been different varieties of trading stamps in different areas of the country!
