I received a purple clematis floral arrangement from a very happy client last year. It wintered over in the greenhouse and I planted it in the ground this Spring. I have no idea which pruning type this one is .. are there any visible indications on clematis plants that tell you?

They are pretty tough plants and pruning for me is usually for aesthetics, but that's just because I am so busy sometimes I don't get around to do a proper evaluation. They still perform great.
It has to do with bloom time and there are several sites that give info, I liked this one with a chart further down:
