I use Wilcox All Pro 202S Trowel and Fiskars 70736935J 502987 Big Grip Trowel
Big Grip Trowel. Both are good to dig. For more information, you should read articles and reviews.

Here is a link to a board of my favorite gardening tools. https://pin.it/1RmO8Go

Of course I also have a gardening fork for lifting and dividing irises, but it's nothing out of the ordinary. The tools collected on this board are ones that I consider extraordinary after my lifetime of gardening.

The Startostar garen makers are the best ones I've ever had.

This Brother P-Touch D610BT labelmaker takes one inch wide fade-proof tape which allows you to make easily readable two- or three-line labels that fit perfectly on the Statostar garden markers.

These gardening gloves are the most protective of any I've ever had in my 74 years. My husband envied them so much that I had to buy a second pair for him.

The gardening bench is a lifesaver for weeding.

The Lesche digging tool is indestructible for digging small holes in rocky soil.

The Japanese triangle hoe is the best weeding hoe I've ever had in my life, and is also terriffic for restoring the garden edge. Very sharp. Just whack it into the soil and pull toward yourself.

This brand of hori hori knife is wicked sharp, rust-proof, and sturdy. Just what one needs for cutting apart iris rhizomes. It comes with a sturdy holster that can go on a belt.

The Lady gardener shovel is the perfect size for a woman, with a D handle and small enough blade for working in rocky, root-filled soil. It makes just the right size of hole for a new iris rhizome, without excessive work.

The Fiskars microtip pruners are perfect for deadheading, and trimming out spent bloom stems.

The 4-prong Fiskars uprooter is fast and efficient when popping out certain types of weeds, particularly dandelions and large- and narrow-leafed plantains, goosegrass - things with well defined centers or basal rosettes. I use it with the Fiskars pop-up weed bag, which is self supporting and quite light-weight to drag around with me. Just shoot the weeds into the bag. You get into a rhythm: pop and shoot, pop and shoot.

I highly recommend all of these. Search Amazon for these brands.

I'm afraid that power auger wouldn't work at all well in our rocky soil. I use a lady gardener shovel. And for prying out stones, a 6' pry bar. Or sometimes a mattock.

I've been seeing that RootSlayer shovel advertised for years, and keep wondering whether it would work in soil where the main problem is rocks, rather than roots.

Anyone know of a shovel that's best for getting out rocks?

I have a lot of roots and rocks, works well for the most part, if its a large rock, I use a different shovel to get around it, mostly a sharp shooter

We have a lot of rocks that are fist-sized or smaller. Can't put a garden marker or plant stake in without hitting a rock every time. It's aggravating.
